Literature Text

The hallways were nearly deserted as you and Loki walked through them. Thankfully most of the people you saw were servants, their gaze downcast as they passed the two of you. The whole place seemed to be made of gold, the walls, the floors, everything, even the fire that burned in the ornate sconces seemed to burn with a golden hue. You stayed a few steps behind Loki, who lead the way, turning corners like he knew the place like the back of his hand. Occasionally you tripped over the long hem of your dress, cursing the fact that you weren't wearing jeans, why could we all just wear jeans? That would be easier than the yards of fabric that covered your legs. You stared enviously at Loki, letting out a small huff of anger when you once tripped again, your hands flailing to catch the wall for support.
Loki turned back around to face you, his eyebrow forming a small curve, "We don't have all day, y/n."
"You try walking around in something that you've never been in before!" You hissed, taking up a few folds of cloth between your now clenched fists and pulling the skirt up to your calves, which Loki grumbled about, pushing your hands down so that the silk rested just above your knees.
"Don't do that, y/n! Not past the ankles!" He hissed, speaking low.
You scoffed, "You sound like one of those stuck up etiquette school teachers."
He shook his head, grumbling something about how Midgardians knew nothing, and how their education system was lacking in everything it should already be excelling in; you just rolled your eyes and pulled the dress back up, this time to your knees.
You dropped the dress just as Loki turned back to face you, hands now placed steadily on your shoulders.
LOKI'S POV
"Do exactly as I do, alright?" I whispered, glancing around frantically for anyone who might be listening in.
Y/n nodded, looking over to the side at the big gold encrusted doors that lead to my father's throne room, a throne that I still could have been sitting on, had Thor not returned with the help of Sif and the Warrior's Three. I grimaced at the painful memory of that day, and quickly pushed it out of my thoughts, locking my eyes back onto y/n's, staring into the e/c orbs that were now tinged a light lilac around the edges, a thin ring of onyx surrounding her irises, her pupils slightly pointed at the edges, like a cat's. I hadn't noticed it before, a deep fear swelling up low in my stomach. She whispered back to me just as softly, "I can feel the fear coming off of you."
I blinked in confusion, just as helpless as she was in this situation, "I know." I lied, averting my eyes, thankful not even the usual servant was scuttling around to overhear our conversation.
Y/n sighed, her gaze moving in the direction I was looking, taking in the grand doors of the throne room, "Damn…" She whispered.
XXX
She walked behind me into the gargantuan throne room, empty save for the throne my father occupied in the middle of the room, next to them were Sif and the Warriors Three. He looked over the both of us as we got closer; giving several quick once over's to the girl on my left. Sif looked cautious of her, regarding her with a calm demeanor as she did everything, but I could see a spark of some sort of rage in her eyes.
The Warriors Three, however looked at her as friend, a flirtatious smirk, as usual, playing across Fandral's face, the others smiling openly at her.
"Odin." I forced out, trying hard to make it look like I wasn't forcing my kindness. My knees quivered as I bowed to him, hand over my heart, hating every moment of it, urging y/n with my eyes to mimic my position. She, somewhat, successfully, accomplished it, wavering on her balance, an angry thought shooting through her mind, I swear Loki, I'm going to drown you in the tub, and then I'm going to chop you up into little pieces and feed you to my cat.
I tried to hide my laugh; instead it came out as a somewhat strangled one, covering my mouth with my free hand, glancing up at Odin, who glared down at me.
Odin lifted up his right hand, and I stood, glancing again at y/n, who stood gratefully, her feet moving to avoid stepping on the skirt, the f/c fabric rustling softly over the stone flooring.
"So this is the girl I was hearing about, the one whom you brought up to Asgard so urgently demanding care for her." He spoke slowly, glancing at her again, speaking to her after a few moments of silence, "And what is your name, young one?"
"I, uh, y/n. It's y/n." She stuttered, lowering her violet tinged gaze to the floor.
He looked at her thoughtfully, his eyes narrowing to catch the glimpse of purple that refracted when Fandral moved, the bright metal on his armor casting a beam of light across her face. "Let me see your eyes, child."
She blinked in curiosity, moving towards him, until he stopped her with his hand, grasping the bottom of her chin in his fingertips, eyes scanning hers, a slight intake of breath setting everyone on edge, "My King, what is the matter?" Lady Sif asked, a hand fluttering over the sheath of her sword. I glared at her, daring her to move her sword hand any farther.
Odin shook his head, leaning back into his throne, letting go of y/n, who stepped back cautiously, "What?" She whispers, hands going over her chest.
"What did you see in her, All father?" I whisper just as softly, taking a few steps forward to meet y/n on the steps, her face as pale as snow.
The All father held up a trembling hand, "I saw the Lilin in her, those eyes, they cannot lie."
"A succubus, that is absolutely insane!" I yelled, motioning to her, "She can't be the child of Lilith, she has been trapped in Hel for nine hundred years!"
"That obviously did not stop her; this is a child of Lilith."
"Who is Lilith, and how can she be my mother? My mom is somewhere down on Earth probably using up all our minutes to call me!" Y/n cried, her arms waving about her.
Odin looked at her, a weird look on his face, "Silence, demon!"
"Do not call her such names, she has done nothing wrong but learn her heritage!" I screamed, a painful flashback of Odin telling me that I was not his child, but the child of the Frost Giant, Laufey.
"And you would do well to keep your mouth shut as well, Loki." Sif spat, sparing a glance at y/n, who looked utterly confused and a little defeated. "I would also like that question to be answered myself, Lilith has not been able to seduce men since she was bound in Hel." Sif spoke softer in y/n's direction, obviously giving a little compassion for the Midgardian girl.

So… I'm a succubus? You thought, what was that exactly? You knew it was a demon, you had learned it in writing class one year when you were writing stories set in medieval England, and you had seen the name pop up a few times, but you never paid any attention to it, thinking that they were weird creatures who liked messing with people's heads.
Obviously, you should have, because now they were calling you that, and it was weird that it hurt you, normally you would have just brushed it off. You didn't know why it was different this time.
You didn't like being the odd one out, the weirdo, or anything like that. And you definitely didn't want to be called a demon by some old guy sitting on a golden throne.
You quickly turned on your heel and fled from the room, not wanting to hear any more of their arguing, all of them stopping and calling out to you, not stopping, nor caring that you were stumbling over your dress, shooting out the doors like a rocket.
You found yourself surrounded in the scent of books, the old papery smell drawing you to it. Libraries were peaceful, weren't they? Nobody talked, and if they did it was in a whisper, too softly for anybody to hear outside of the little bubble of sound. That's why you went there, you supposed, so nobody could bother you, after all, that was where you went if you want to escape a test or something, that or the big stall at the end of the girl's bathroom.
It seemed like the whole place was deserted, that, or everyone was doing other things, which you thanked your stars that you were, mostly, alone. A few servants were here, but they kept out of your way, out of habit, or they felt the strong vibe coming off you that just screamed, 'LEAVE ME ALONE'.
Book after book you looked through you found nothing about a succubus, or anybody named Lilith for that matter, that, or they were written in some weird runic language that you weren't in a thousand years, going to try to decipher.
Until you found a small leather bound book hear the end of the room, nestled between two thick volumes, so skinny compared to the ones next to it, you honestly could have passed it, had you not been purposely looking for it. And the best part was it was written in English.
You pulled it out, running your fingers across the cover, embossed in the center a title that read, 'Succubi and Incubi Fact and Lore'.
You opened it to the Index, finding a section about no other, than Lilith, thumbing to the correct page ignoring the painful cut you got from going through it too quickly.
Your eyes scanned the page, landing on the last paragraph of the page, reading over the faded words, 'Lilith in Jewish and Arabic legend is personified as a Succubus, a demon who hunts men to seduce them and drain them of their life force. Lilith is described as a porcelain skinned woman, with long auburn hair that flows down to her hips in soft waves, and large green eyes that shine like fire. She is also often described with large black, membranous wings and a black tail with a pointed end. And according to Jewish Folklore, the 'lilin' are the children of Lilith and Adam, the lilin are demons, and function as a succubus.'
You turned the next page, reading over something that they called Allu, the offspring of a succubi, and their description reminded you of none other than the urban legend of Slender Man, that odd faceless dude who kidnapped children, killed them, and hung them up in trees in the woods only to be found later by their parents.
You kept flipping and reading until you heard slow footsteps behind you, shutting the book slowly and standing, not even noticing you had sat in the first place, turning to face the dark haired woman that came towards you, a serious look settling over her pretty features. She tried to hide the surprise when she looked into your eyes, but you could feel it in her.
You also felt that she wasn't coming here to scold you for running out so suddenly, but spoke to you calmly, almost as if she had known you her whole life, "I hope dearly that the All father did not upset you too much, y/n."
"Other than being called a soul sucking demon? Yeah, I'm peachy."
Her eyebrows formed a slight V shape; you tried hard not to laugh at her confusion, "Excuse me? Peachy?"
You rolled your eyes, "I'm fine. Who are you anyway, and why are you here?" You cringed, you hadn't meant for that to come out as bitchy as it did.
"I am Lady Sif. And as much as I'd rather lie to you, or rather, tell you what they told me to, I fear you'd pick up on it." She looked off to the side, "I sensed you were uneasy, and other than Fandral, or even Volstagg, I can actually make people feel better than making them want to vomit."
You laughed, you actually were starting to like this chick, and the fact that she didn't lie to you first off the bat made you like her a little more. She looked back at you with a small smile on her face, "Who are they? Those three guys standing next you?"
She nodded, "Fandral is the blond, Volstagg is the dwarf, and Hogun is the one who was standing closest to me. They make up the Warriors Three."
"Cool beans." You said, holding up the book in your hand, "Can I borrow this?"
Sif shrugged, taking the book from your hand and rifling through the pages, handing it back to you when she finished, "I guess, just as long as you return it."
You pointed you yourself, "Hey, only two late dues from the library in her whole life, and then that other time… But really, I'm pretty good at returning things."
"You aren't building a very good foundation of trust when you say things like that."
You blushed, "Then you probably shouldn't ask about the times I've forgotten my homework."
She chuckled, "I'll leave that subject alone then. I will go now, unless you require something?"
You shook your head, holding up the book, "I'm just gonna spend a little more time in here. Kay?"
She nodded, "As you wish, y/n. Are you sure you are alright?"
"I guess so. I'll know who to call if I'm not." You smiled.
"Very well then," Sif smiled back at you, bowing her head in a silent farewell, while she left you to your research.
Oh jeez, you had a lot to learn.
Chapter 13.
This was totally supposed to be up on Saturday, but well, I got busy, with my birthday and all, so it was posted TODAY. I liked Sif in Thor, who else? I also like the concept of Sif and Thor together, because they ARE married in Norse myth, and they just look like they'll be better together, and they know each other loads better than Thor knows Jane. Ya know?
